Our physical therapists provide individualized, specialist-led injury recovery, beginning with a full assessment of how you move. Our Physical Therapy team is integrated into our Training Studios. Therapists work alongside coaches, physicians, and specialists to combine hands-on care with active recovery, creating a clear path from physical therapy to independent exercise. It’s one connected plan, not a handoff between disconnected providers.
Unlike most clinicians, our physical therapists are American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certified specialists, informed by the latest research and treat the whole person, not simply the injury, supporting progress beyond symptom relief.
Physical therapy here means individualized, expert-led injury recovery: hands-on treatment from your Physical Therapist, backed by a connected team of trainers, nutritionists, recovery specialists, Pilates instructors and mental performance consultants, helping you get back to yourself safely and efficiently.
Our physical therapists support a wide range of conditions, including:
Areas of Focus
We treat both acute injuries and long-standing pain, applying specialized training and proven techniques to support meaningful, lasting progress. Care is guided by assessment and focused on understanding the source of pain, movement limitations and recovery needs.
SESSION ONE: A FULL EVALUATION
Your first session begins with a comprehensive evaluation of how you move, feel and function, and where you want your body to take you next.
Together, we define what your body needs to be capable of:
Your physical therapist combines clinical expertise, detailed health data and your goals to build a plan that evolves with you. You don’t have to settle for where your body is today.
ONGOING CARE: ACTIVE AND COLLABORATIVE
You’ll work closely with your therapist to build the strength, mobility and confidence you need for what’s next, supported by a connected team of recovery and training specialists.
As you progress from rehabilitation back to the activities and life you want, your care stays:
We offer comprehensive concussion therapy led by licensed physical therapists with advanced training in concussion management. Our approach focuses on restoring full function and supporting a safe, structured return to daily activities, school, work and sport.
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a direct or indirect blow to the head. Symptoms can include dizziness, headaches, changes in memory or concentration, visual disturbances and balance challenges. Because symptoms vary widely, care begins with a thorough medical screening and physical examination.
During your evaluation, your physical therapist assesses multiple systems, including:
Using these findings, your therapist develops an individualized treatment plan focused on addressing the specific systems involved. Care may include targeted exercises, manual therapy, vestibular and visual training, cardiovascular progression and education to support recovery.
Concussion therapy at Performance Optimal Health is collaborative. Our physical therapists communicate with physicians and other involved providers to ensure care stays coordinated and progression remains appropriate. Education is also a key part of treatment, including guidance around returning to school, work, training and sport in a step-wise manner.
Length of care varies based on symptoms and response to treatment and may range from one to twelve weeks. Progression is always symptom-guided, with the goal of returning to normal daily activities without setbacks before advancing toward higher-level demands.
We also offer Baseline Testing at all Performance Optimal Health locations. Baseline Testing uses the ImPACT test, an FDA-approved and research-supported assessment measuring cognitive function, motor skills and vestibulo-ocular performance. While not required, baseline data can be a helpful tool for comparison following a concussion and can assist with progression through rehabilitation.
Your physical therapist will guide you through each phase of care and provide clear recommendations based on how your body responds over time.
We offer pediatric physical therapy for children and adolescents with a wide range of orthopedic and movement-related needs. Our licensed physical therapists have specialized training in pediatric orthopedics and musculoskeletal care, allowing us to assess and treat children with intention and attention to detail.
Pediatric physical therapy may support conditions such as ankle sprains, concussions, scoliosis, Osgood Schlatter’s disease, Sever’s disease and movement or coordination challenges following fractures. Care focuses on restoring movement, improving neuromuscular control and supporting a safe return to school, sport and daily activity.
Our physical therapists serve as a direct access point for many pediatric conditions. This allows for immediate screening, early intervention and coordinated referrals to physicians when appropriate. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, corrective exercise, motor patterning and education designed to support progress and confidence as children heal and grow.
We also provide specialized care for infants with torticollis. Physical therapists certified in torticollis treatment perform thorough evaluations and create individualized care plans. Treatment includes caregiver education, stretching, positioning strategies for feeding and play and ongoing assessment of gross motor development. Care is adjusted as infants progress, with open communication maintained with pediatricians and other members of the care team.
Throughout pediatric care, our therapists work closely with children and their families, emphasizing clear communication, collaboration and outcomes which support long-term movement health.
We offer specialized pelvic health physical therapy for women and men of all ages. Pelvic health concerns are more common than many people realize and can affect movement, comfort and overall quality of life.
Our pelvic health specialists, Danielle Pasquale, DPT and Maddy Mazoue, DPT, treat a wide range of pelvic floor–related conditions, including incontinence, pelvic pain and discomfort involving the hips or lower back. Care is guided by assessment and focuses on how the pelvic floor functions as part of the whole body, not just strength alone.
Pelvic care at Performance Optimal Health goes beyond Kegels. Treatment may include breathing strategies, stretching, manual therapy and targeted strengthening, depending on what your body needs. For some individuals, releasing tension and improving coordination is the priority. For others, building strength and control is more appropriate. Each plan is tailored with intention.
Pelvic physical therapy may be appropriate for individuals experiencing pelvic pain, tailbone discomfort, hip or back pain, sexual dysfunction, urinary or fecal leakage, pregnancy or postpartum concerns and recovery following abdominal or pelvic surgery. While pelvic health is often associated with pregnancy, care can support many different needs across all stages of life.
Common conditions we treat include interstitial cystitis, endometriosis, urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, prostatitis, post-prostatectomy recovery, diastasis recti, coccyx pain, constipation and post-operative pelvic or abdominal conditions.
Your first visit includes a one-on-one evaluation with a pelvic physical therapist. This session focuses on understanding your symptoms, medical history and goals, followed by a comprehensive assessment of the hips, lower back and pelvic floor. Internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment are only performed with consent and clear communication. Education is a core part of care, helping you understand anatomy, function and the plan moving forward.
Visit frequency and length of care vary based on symptoms, goals and response to treatment. Plans are designed to be flexible and supportive, with adjustments made as progress continues.
Pelvic health care at Performance Optimal Health is informed, respectful and focused on helping you move and feel better with confidence.
We offer dry needling performed by certified physical therapists as part of an integrated approach to pain management, movement quality and recovery.
Dry needling, also known as trigger point dry needling, is a soft tissue technique used to address muscle tension, pain and dysfunction related to myofascial trigger points. These trigger points are sensitive areas within muscle tissue which can contribute to pain, restricted movement and altered muscle function.
During treatment, a thin monofilament needle is used to target the trigger point. This may produce a brief muscle response, often felt as a small twitch, followed by a release of tension. The goal is to reduce pain, improve mobility, restore normal muscle function and support healing.
Dry needling may be used to support conditions related to overuse, repetitive activity or injury. It can also help relieve nerve-related symptoms associated with soft tissue restriction. Common areas treated include the neck, shoulders, lower back, hips, thighs and calves.
Conditions commonly addressed with dry needling include neck pain, low back pain, shoulder impingement, tennis or golfer’s elbow, IT band syndrome, calf strains, Achilles tendinopathy and sciatica.
Sensation during treatment varies. Some discomfort is normal, often described as similar to deep tissue work. Most clients report less discomfort than injections such as flu shots or blood draws. Temporary soreness may occur for a few hours following treatment, with activity guidance provided by your therapist as needed.
Dry needling does not involve medication or the injection of any substance. Multiple sessions are often recommended, with frequency determined based on assessment and response to care.
Dry needling differs from acupuncture. While both use thin needles, acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and focuses on energy pathways. Dry needling is a Western, evidence-informed technique targeting muscle and soft tissue trigger points to improve movement and reduce pain.
Your physical therapist will determine whether dry needling is appropriate and how it fits into your overall plan of care.
We offer Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) provided by licensed physical therapists with advanced training in vestibular care. VRT is designed to address symptoms related to vestibular disorders, including dizziness, vertigo, balance challenges and visual disturbance with head movement.
The vestibular system is located in the inner ear and plays a central role in balance, coordination and spatial awareness. When this system is disrupted, symptoms may include dizziness, nausea, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and increased fall risk. Vestibular dysfunction may affect one side of the body or both, and symptoms can vary widely in intensity and duration.
Care begins with a comprehensive evaluation and medical screening. Your physical therapist assesses balance, eye movement, neck mobility and vestibular function to understand how symptoms present and which systems are involved. Based on findings, your therapist develops a targeted treatment plan focused on restoring stability, confidence and daily function.
Vestibular rehabilitation may include hands-on techniques and guided exercises such as canalith repositioning for positional vertigo, habituation exercises to reduce sensitivity to motion, ocular exercises to improve coordination between the eyes and inner ear and balance training to support safe movement and reduce fall risk. Care may also address the cervical spine when neck involvement contributes to symptoms.
Length of care depends on symptom severity and response to treatment. Some individuals experience improvement within a few sessions, while others may benefit from several weeks of therapy. Progress is reviewed regularly, and care is adjusted with intention.
Vestibular exercises should only be performed following proper evaluation and guidance from a physical therapist, as vestibular conditions vary and exercises are not one size fits all. When medication is part of care, coordination with your physician helps ensure symptoms are managed without limiting the body’s ability to adapt.
Vestibular rehabilitation at Performance Optimal Health focuses on helping you regain balance, reduce dizziness and move through daily life with greater confidence and safety.
Performance offers care guided by the Schroth Method through physical therapists with specialized certification and training. The Schroth Method is a scoliosis-specific approach focused on postural correction, spinal elongation, asymmetrical alignment and targeted breathing strategies.
Schroth-based care is used to support individuals with scoliosis, kyphosis and other spinal conditions, including non-operative, pre-operative and post-operative care. Treatment is appropriate for adolescents and adults and is designed to address back and neck pain while improving posture and movement control.
Care begins with a thorough clinical evaluation. When available, X-rays are reviewed to better understand spinal curvature patterns and guide exercise selection. While imaging can increase precision, it is not required to begin a Schroth-based program. Exercises are highly individualized and guided through visual and hands-on cueing to support awareness, correction and carryover into daily life.
Schroth therapy often incorporates tools such as stall bars or Swedish ladders to assist with alignment and corrective positioning. Over time, clients learn how to recognize asymmetries, adjust posture and maintain more efficient movement patterns independently.
The principles of the Schroth Method align closely with Pilates. Both emphasize postural control, breath and intentional movement. For some individuals, Pilates may be recommended as part of ongoing care to support strength, endurance and long-term postural management.
Most individuals work closely with a therapist for several weeks to build confidence and independence with a home program. As skill and control improve, visit frequency may decrease, with periodic check-ins to progress exercises and support continued development.
Schroth-based care at Performance Optimal Health focuses on precision, education and long-term management to support healthier movement and posture over time.
We offer Blood Flow Restriction therapy guided by trained physical therapists and coaches as part of physical therapy and performance training.
Blood Flow Restriction therapy uses a medical-grade cuff to safely and temporarily limit venous blood flow to a working limb during low-load exercise. This approach allows the body to achieve strength and muscle-building benefits similar to higher intensity training while placing less mechanical stress on joints and healing tissue.
By limiting oxygen availability to the working muscle, BFR shifts the body toward anaerobic energy systems during light resistance exercise. This results in increased muscle fiber recruitment, improvements in strength and endurance and support for muscle size, all without the need for heavy loading. This makes BFR especially valuable during injury recovery when traditional strength training may not be appropriate.
At Performance Optimal Health, BFR is used to support recovery and performance across a wide range of needs. It may be appropriate for individuals recovering from surgery, including ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff repair, shoulder labral repair and elbow procedures. It may also support ligament injuries, tendinopathies, muscle strains and ongoing performance training.
All clients are screened prior to use to ensure BFR is appropriate and safe. Our team is trained in proper application, monitoring and progression. In our Greenwich location, we use the Delphi system, widely regarded as the gold standard in BFR technology and used extensively in Department of Defense research. Other locations use the H+ cuff system, which provides the same level of safety and effectiveness through a different design.
During treatment, you may feel strong muscle fatigue or a burning sensation similar to an intense workout. This response is expected and generally well tolerated, without joint strain or sharp pain. Your provider will guide intensity and duration based on your goals and response.
Blood Flow Restriction therapy at Performance Optimal Health allows strength and recovery to move forward safely, even when traditional loading is not an option.
We offer Active Release Therapy provided by certified physical therapists as part of a comprehensive approach to movement quality, pain management and recovery.
Active Release Therapy is a hands-on soft tissue technique used to address muscle, tendon, ligament and fascial restrictions. During treatment, the therapist applies targeted pressure to a shortened tissue while guiding it through specific movement. This approach helps release adhesions, or areas of dense tissue, which can limit mobility, alter movement patterns and contribute to pain.
ART is commonly used to address soft tissue dysfunction related to overuse, repetitive activity or injury. Adhesions may develop following acute injury or gradual overload and can affect muscles, nerves and surrounding structures. By restoring normal tissue glide, ART supports improved mobility, reduced tension and more efficient movement.
This technique may benefit a wide range of individuals, including athletes, active adults and those whose work involves repetitive or sustained postures. ART can also support nerve-related symptoms when soft tissue restriction contributes to irritation or compression.
Sensation during ART varies. Some areas may feel tender due to tissue sensitivity, though pressure is always guided by client tolerance. Multiple sessions are often recommended, with frequency determined based on assessment and response to care.
By improving how tissues move and interact, Active Release Therapy can support activities such as running, lifting, throwing, typing and sport-specific movement. At Performance Optimal Health, ART is used with the intention to help restore resilience, efficiency and confidence in movement.
